About University Honors

PROFILE: Rafael Green

Meet Rafael!

Rafael Green is a junior marketing and logistics major from Pennsauken, New Jersey. He graduated valedictorian of his class at Pennsauken High where he was president of the school's National and National Spanish Honor Society chapters and was a highly active member of the student government. At Maryland, Rafael has been equally involved, dividing his time outside of class among officer positions in a wide array of campus clubs and organizations. He is a Banneker Key scholar, devoted Terrapin sports fan, and founding member of the Honors Ambassadors. When he's not studying or at work, you can usually find Rafael on the McKeldin Mall rushing to his next meeting in a pair of his favorite designer shades.

What has been your proudest accomplishment at Maryland so far?

Some of my most memorable experiences include my first Terps events. I will never forget the thrill I experienced during my first soccer, basketball, and football games. Other memorable experiences include professional trips to DC, New York, and Virginia with colleagues from the business school, road trips to Atlantic City and Philadelphia with friends, and attending campus socials with classmates. Since matriculating here at Maryland, I have prided myself on continued professional and co-curricular involvement, excellence in academics, and an overall balanced lifestyle. It was a huge accomplishment for me to receive a "full-ride" to Maryland with the Banneker Key Scholarship in the University Honors Program. I am glad to have participated on multiple executive boards within Smith Business School Organizations and the Honors Program.

What other things have you been involved with on campus?

I have been involved with a number of organizations and programs. In the business school, I have held committee positions within the student government (SUSA). Moreover, I was the head of VIP tours for Smith Ambassadors, Vice President of Operations for the Black Business Association, and have participated in American Marketing Association and Logistics Society events. I was an executive at large for the Black Honors Caucus. I also enjoyed attending many cultural events at the Stamp Student Union and Nyumburu Cultural Center, sporting events at Byrd and Comcast stadiums, and community functions within the neighboring communities.

What do you plan to do after you graduate?

After college, I plan to work for a third-party global logistics firm where I hope to travel around the world to meet client needs and maximize efficiency within supply chains. I have a strong interest in international affairs and tourism, so I would like to travel for both business and leisure purposes. Also, I enjoy event planning so I am considering gaining a corporate event planning certification from George Washington University.

How would you spend a free week?

I have a great deal of interests. I love to travel to metropolitan areas; I thrive on the bustling and chaotic nature of cities. Whether I'd prefer dining with friends, walking around a park, or shopping, cities offer all of that and more. I have always loved to dance and socialize, I am a huge fan of local nightlife, concerts, and exclusive venues. If I suddenly had a week free, I would immediately book a flight to a Caribbean island and fly out on a whim for a relaxing vacation. My life is very structured and I keep a busy schedule, the opportunity to do something spontaneous for a change would be phenomenal, and a dream vacation would be in order.

What advice would you give to incoming freshmen?

Time management, time management, and time management! As a student, your most valuable resource is your time and choosing how you spend it is a very important process. By mastering excellent time management skills, a student can balance academic success, co-curricular involvement, pre-professional endeavors, community outreach, and many other interests. I firmly believe by becoming a "pro" at time management, a student can have the best personal college experience possible!
