Course related policies

The Office of Undergraduate Studies has developed a Course Related Policies for UMD Undergraduate Students guide for students and faculty.

This guide provides UMD resources and policies on excused absences, syllabi, sexual misconduct and more. The Course Related Policies for UMD Undergraduate Students guide is an easy-to-use online guide that outlines policies and resources that apply to UMD students in all UMD courses. Professors are encouraged to provide a link to the guide in the course syllabus.

Expand a course’s reach with a Gen Ed designation

All Honors College courses are eligible for General Education course approval. Having a General Education designation for a course is an incentive for enrollment and expands the opportunities for interdisciplinary learning.

UMD faculty members teach the general education courses, propose and develop new courses, revise old courses, serve on department and college programs, courses and curricula committees, and, as members of the General Education Faculty Boards, take overall responsibility for the quality of General Education. The faculty boards evaluate proposals for new and existing courses for suitability in the general education categories.

Review the process and submit for general education course approval.

Syllabus support

The Teaching & Learning Transformation Center offers faculty suggestions, tips and guidance for teaching at UMD. The TLTC Write a Syllabus resource explains essential campus policies related to syllabi and offers a template that professors can edit or copy. New faculty are always welcome to check in with the Honors College staff for more detailed information.
