Essay Questions
Please respond to the following questions in clear and articulate responses.

HONR 100 is designed to help first-year students make a smooth transition to the University, and currently, the main units of the class are liberal education, diversity, service learning, current events, and the arts. Discuss the purpose of HONR 100, as you understand it, and how you will articulate this to your students. Also, explain what you want your students to get out of this class.

Unlike other leadership opportunities available on campus, teaching a course as an undergraduate student is quite unique and different. Tell us what your motivation is for wanting to teach this course and what you hope to gain from this experience.

As a Section Leader, you and your partner will select a class book that clearly ties into one or more of the main units of the course. Please name a book that you would choose, and briefly explain its applicability to a certain unit (or units). Then, outline one original classroom activity that would be helpful in facilitating discussion about the key themes of the book. Include the direction(s) that you would give to students, the materials necessary, the approximate time length, and the desired learning outcomes.

HONR 100 is a team-taught course. Describe for the committee how you might work best with a partner to shape the class. You may want to share brief examples of how you have worked in a team from prior experiences. Also, elaborate on the role you tend to take when working with others, i.e., leader, facilitator, organizer, and in what ways you generally contribute to team efforts.
